Just thought I'd share this for a bit of frustration prevention. I have a General dual drum sander. There are at least a couple of people here that have them http://www.general.ca/products/1_genera ... 5-250.html and I've seen other Asian imports that look like they came out of the same factory. Anyway, at the bottom end of the crank to raise and lower the bed there is a pinion gear. It gears into a shaft that goes to the other side of the bed so the bed will lift parallel. The pinion gears are keyed to the shaft but the set screw came loose on one. I was cranking the bed and by the time I noticed something was amiss the bed had gone way out of parallel. Major pain to get it back parallel. If you own such a machine I would recommend removing the the 2 outside housings where the gears live. 9 screws, 5 minutes. Check to be sure the set screws are tight. It might save you some aggravation.

Would a drop of blue Loctite be in order for the set-screws?

Thanks for the info Danny, I'll have a look at mine. I've just cleaned and greased the adjustment screws but never thought about the pinion set screws.
