I've got a few questions for those of you who have used both.
I'm wondering if anyone has noticed a difference in LMI's FW74 fret wire. The last pound of FW74 that I got from LMI seemed different from previous batches that I received from them. The previous wire seemed to seat better than the new stuff, mainly because it seems that the studs on the tang of the newer wire were much closer to the underside of the crown, so a person had to be really careful when beveling the tops of the fret slots. Same thing with the EVO gold wire. It's not a great problem, but it just seems that there's a little more forgiveness in slot beveling with the lower studs. Has

Also, to those of you who have used the Jescar wire; are you happier/less happy with both the 18% and Gold EVO (assuming that it's different from LMI's) than LMI's wire?

thanks.

I've always assumed LMI got their fretwire from Jescar. My "standard" fret wire is Jescar FW43080-NS but I've been using stainless steel alot more lately. (Jescar FW43080-S) According to the specs listed they're the exact same dimensions as LMI's FW74 and FWSS74. I'll snip you off a short piece of each and drop it in the mail if you'd like to look at some. I buy it 1 pound at a time.

Like Woody I'm pretty sure the LMI wire is Jescar wire. I also believe Jescar is the only manufacturer of the EVO wire.

I have used the FW74 and Gold EVO wire for years. I haven't noticed any real changes in the wire. The last regular wire I ordered in was a couple months ago. I have noticed that the EVO wire constantly installs nicer than the regular stuff. I prep my fretboards exactly the same but the EVO wire goes in much nicer. I usually find I need virtually no fret levelling when installing EVO, but always need a little with the regular wire. I don't have an explanation... idunno

Me too, I really don't like the look of gold wire.

Woody, thanks so much for the offer of a sample, but I think I'm going to just go ahead and order a pound from them. I did suspect that Jescar did manufacture the EVO wire that LMI sells, so I sent them an inquiry on it. Anyway, thanks so much everybody for sharing your experiences with the wire.
