This is my third attempt at building a guitar, my first one I've shown here. This is following the OLF-SJ plan. I've improved a little on each one though there is plenty of room for improvement. My finish work still needs alot of work. I seemed to have had more success on the second guitar than on this one. On the next one I think I will move away from brushing on KTM9 and try the Behlens rattle cans if I can't come up with a spray set up. I also still ended up with a slight hump at the 14th fret. Looked good when I fit the neck before finishing. Love the look of the bloodwood and maple together and it sounds pretty good.

No more pictures??

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

The back and sides were bought as discounted "orphaned" sets from LMI, so they don't match exactly, but the price was good for my skill level.

Nice, VERY nice. Beautiful color combination. I've been using bloodwood
as an accent wood, binding wood, and for a bridge. One advantage you've got
with the KTM-9 is that the wood won't bleed color. I've had a devil of a time
finishing off the top with the bloodwood bridge. Every time I get nitro near it,
I get a red blush in the finish...

Thanks for the kind words folks. A new guy can be kind of nervous showing his work here after looking at the craftsmanship displayed by you all.

I like the big rosette, too. It might have looked sort of overwhelming on a different shaped instrument, but in this case it works with the bridge shape to really accentuate the curviness of the lower bouts. I think it's excellent.

That's why it's nice to fret the board after the neck is attached. You can level the fretboard and take out a hump before you fret it. Nice guitar BTW. My son made a bloodwood guitar and it sounded great. I think it's an underrated tonewood.

Patrick, thanks. I thought the rosette was going to be a bit much after I first installed it in the top, but I am happy with the finished look.

Ken, thanks for the tip on the fretboard. I may try that on the next one.
