Well, I thought midnight would be the perfect time to start another french polishing session. After about five minutes the finish looked like boogers, and it just didn't feel right when I was wiping the pad around. The pad felt dry and sticky, so I added a little oil and tried again...even worse!

Then I smelled the pad. In my weary state of mind I picked up the Naphtha instead of the Alcohol. [headinwall]
Where is the doofus of the month thread when you need it?

Luckily, I switched pads, switched to alcohol, and now I am only about two steps back...

Stuff happens. It could have been a lot worse, and there are folks here who have done far worse. Sorry, not Doofus worthy.

;-)

I thought you picked up a handkerchief and wiped actual boogers onto the finish. That could have been bad too.

oh man that stinks. At least FP is just about infinitely repairable. Glad the damage was minimal.

Probably cause most of us do too many doofus things during every build - at least I do. But I did like reading the thread.

Hey Mark, at least it didn't set you back too far and completely destroy the finish. What if you had picked up acetone wow7-eyes

You mean like this? My first bridge removal, from my own guitar #1. Apparently the nuances of LMI glue separating with a hot spatula and the sound of white spruce fibres tearing is lost on me.

Photographic evidence that I shouldn't build guitars. Nuff said.

In the spirit of sharing..... I was using my jointer last week, and managed to put my left ring finger into the moving blades. I went through the skin and lost a bit of flesh and some fingernail. I ended up with a pretty good sized divot that couldn't be stitched.
I scrubbed it, wow7-eyes , bandaged it, took a Tylenol 3 and hopefully learned a lesson. I figured that I wouldn't be able to play guitar for at least a few months, but this has healed faster than anything that I have ever done before. I got my wife to take some pictures to share with those who can appreciate a Dufus move, but I've been too busy to get around to it. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.

Oh, please remind me not to look at this! I get enough of that over at SMC where people will use seemingly benign titles to lure one in only to see the bloody stump at the wrist with the hand hanging off by the tendons. wow7-eyes Takes me days to get over it. [xx(] Can't turn on the table saw or anything.
