I am in the market to upgrade in the near future and just looking around.

I have a 10" band saw that is really limiting.
I am at least moving up to th 14" 1 1/2 hp range.

I have been eyeing the powermatic. But when I look at the specs and compare it to the grizzly that is souped up with 1 1/2 hp motor (i think it is the ultimae or something) I just don't see the difference.
The powermatic is now about 11-1200 bucks. the grizzly is 575 bucks.

I am just trying to see where the price difference comes from. Anyone have the grizzly with 1.5 hp motor?

I know that if I decide to go for more resaw capacity I should go to the 2.5-3 hp range, and may do that. But I am just window shopping now, and am thinking if I stay on the smaller end the grizzly is a helluva deal?

The Grizzly I was referring to was the GO555X.

I work in my garage, and I am without a 220 outlet. If I go up to spending the money to have a 220 put in my garage I think I will just go for a 2 or 3 horse saw. The rikon looks really tempting too.

the bigger grizzly's with the 2 hp motor say 110/220 v prewired for 220 outlet.
i may move in the next 2-3 years to a rural area, and would at that time make sure i have a shop setup with a 220 outlet. So it would really suck to buy a saw in the near future with my current outlet limitations keeping me in the 110 range. But if I could get a saw that could be wired for 110 or 220v, that would be a really good option.

Is there a disadvantage to running a 2 hp motor on a 110 circuit if it is built to do so?
And I wonder how big of a deal it would be to get the motor wired that way, guess I will have to give grizzly a call.

if your even thinking about making the move to 220 go for a laguna saw they are very reasonabley priced and amazing saws.

they do a smaller 14" saw aswell.

You just cleared up alot for me. Cast Iron it will not be. Like I said, I am asking early as I am 2-3 months away from making the jump, less I get jumpy early. But suddenly the Rikon is looking alot better.

My Rikon 14" deluxe is a sweet saw. I have not had any issues thus far resawing up to 9" tall boards 1/4" - 1/8" slices with a simple 3/4" Timberwolf Blade.
Accurate. Slower than a bigger saw twice its price, but accurate. Works great on a 20 amp circuit in my garage, too.
Woodcraft's upcoming "10% off everything including power tools" sale is a nice time to pick up Rikon gear.
