I'm looking into building a website for my luthiery pursuits and was wondering who's sites you like and why. Any email addresses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

www.hoffmanguitars.com
www.frets.com
www.dickeyguitars.com
www.wellsguitars.com

These four come to mind and check the links on those sites they will lead you to more.

Good luck. Why? Oh, they are really good sites, that's why. One more: www.matsushita.com ? Kathy Matsushita....

Kathy's site was a real springboard for me in considering building guitars.

www.cumpiano.com -contains newsletters and interesting articles about guitar building

www.guitarnation.com -AWESOME and massive gallery of beautiful guitars!

Greg, what will the focus of your site be? That'll help show you what we
believe works for different purposes. I like mine for a hobbiest gallery-
driven site. It's a basic one page layout with a personal feel, good
separation of information, and still easy to follow.

I like Tony Vines' website. It's very cool.

Don't even look at either of mine for guidance, they absolutely stink. Amateuristic isn't a good way to go...

I like Judy Threet's as a builder-selling-guitars-site. Lots of photos and info, easy to navigate, not a lot of verbiage. The eye-candy is foremost, with good photography, but a lot of text info is close to at hand. Very professional but not too glitzy. A lot of thought went into its structure.

For building info sites, I like Frets.com, Jon Sevy's luthier's page, and Sylvan Wells' articles page. It was Kathy Matsushita's site that convinced me I could build a guitar.

A site that has tons of pictures of his shop and building process is Dennis Scanell's True North Guitars.

Check out these pictures:

Mario Proulx has a nice site as well. Lots of pics of the way he goes about building guitars.

Most of my favorites have been mentioned already. There are some brilliant ideas on Dennis Scanell's True North site as well as Mario Proulx's site. I'd love to get an opportunity to play guitars from both those guys. Alan Dunwell recently added a "Let Build a Guitar" pictorial essay on his site and there are some excellent ideas there, including detail on his double top guitars. Alan is a regular at the anual RMMGA gathering in Wimberley Texas every October and I've played several of his guitars there. I'm not generally a dread guy but he had one there a couple years ago that just blew me away and I don't think he gets the credit he deserves.
