Hi

I have put a curve shape on the end of the fretboard that I seen on a Google photo and liked

Can anyone give me any advice on shaping the fret end to match the curve

Attached a pic Image

Thanks

I shape it before installing, by dragging on a diamond stone or diamond crowning file, followed by sandpaper and micromesh. But do be careful to line it up correctly when installing. This one ended up just a hair too far to the right, so a bit of slot is visible. Better than overhanging and being easy to pull out, but still a bit ugly. The plan was for the other end to be a bit farther from the board edge than the rest, so as to be less snaggy on fingernails if you happen to run into it when picking near the fingerboard. But apparently I forgot and positioned it based on the board edge to match the one above it, and didn't check the curved end before hammering it in. Oh well.

Trevor Gore suggests installing a full fret before shaping the end of the fretboard then cutting the shape using the bandsaw which will happily cut the relatively soft fretwire. I have used this technique very sucsessfully on a couple of guitars. A bit of work with a file to tidy the sharp edges sorts it

I must say I like the look of this sort of termination of the fretboard.

Maybe it's the lighting and camera angle.... those slots look huge. What about binding the whole thing? Then all you gotta do is shape the overhang

The end isn't bound, that's a shadow. Fooled me at first.

Hi thanks for all the tips. Slots are okay. I have opened up the tops with a triangle file, so look bigger

I do classical guitars that way and just get it real close and finish it off with files and paper.
