I've always casually browsed their catalogs but I've never really been in the market for a super high end plane. I get by with old beat up Bailey's that I managed to get back into decent working shape. These planes look like they are a pleasure to work with and I think it will be a very welcome addition to the shop. But jeez- do they EVER go on sale???

I don't know about Veritas, but I've never seen an LN on sale.

I was thinking the same thing but just wanted to make sure before biting the bullet. I signed up for their email list hoping for a coupon code or something since they are an option at checkout. Nothing yet though.

You just missed the "Cyber-Monday" sale where Veritas factory seconds were sold off. Tools with a cosmetic blemish sold pretty fast to people who are on the mailing list at: http://www.leevalley.com/US/Home/cyms.aspx

cheers

Bummer, I just missed that and bought another stupid smart phone instead. Just out of curiosity- what were the prices like?

Prices were $50-$100 off, I think. Not screaming bargains, but a nice bonus if you found a plane you were sort of waiting and waffling on.

Start saving your change in a jar and you'll eventually recoup missing the sale.

cheers

You can get discounted Lie-Nielsen if you buy at trade shows (at least, I have in the past). Otherwise, keep your eye on FleaBay.

Lee Valley (Veritas) doesn't usually discount, but they do usually offer a good introductory price on newly-released items. Apart from the cyberMonday sale (be ready to press the buy button within minutes of it opening), the best bet is to wait for one of their free shipping times, which happens surprisingly regularly.

The Cyber Monday deals are pretty good but if you don't want factory seconds you can buy one of the discounted giddy cards that they sell on Cyber Monday. Next year I guess.

The Veritas plane will work perfectly well for nearly forever. If you amortize your expense, your plane is far better value than the phone!

Dan, the next time that you come and visit, we can just go down to the Lee Valley store and you can examine all of their planes, buy the one that you want. Shipping will be free!
