I'm not a podcast kinda guy most of the time. I'm impatient and I'd rather read as a rule. But this podcast with TJ Thompson is absolutely fascinating.

He's the go-to guy for vintage Martin repairs, and he touches on some of that, but the really fascinating stuff transcends guitars and makes for a really compelling talk.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I really like TJ. I met him at Galloups a couple years ago and we sat and had dinner together. We talked about guitars but most interesting was some of the parallels in our lives. Just like most of us, he is just like you and I... ha ha I just made that up.
