Here are a couple of photos of a rough mockup/prototype of a jig to remove the tang for bound fretboards.
In this state, with some adjustment, it left a minimum of tang which required a few swipes with a file to finish.
For me, way faster than a file alone.
I went this route rather than a tang nipper because a) I didn't have to buy anything and b) it works on stainless frets also, which most nippers do not.
In the final state, I will add a foot pedal to control the speed of the tool, and some clamps to hold the fret piece down that will be faster than having to tighten the two nuts every time. And, of course, get rid of the clamps holding everything together.

Great tutorial. I have wanted a way to avoid the potential damage to the fretboard edge when filing the frets in place. There are some great ideas here.
