Maybe that first unedited post would put that reply in some kind of context but right now I'm just shaking my head.

Watzup?

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

It was a request for money (GoFundMe) so the OP can take a guitar building class.

I find these requests to be odd. Like someone requesting money to learn how to play golf. This is an expensive hobby. Very few really make money at it. Like golf.

I don't even like golf (really nothing against it, just no desire to go out of my way for it) but if you guys have it in you to fund me I will do my best not to loose too many balls.

The OP's first post claimed that this website had "helped him so much", but he didn't explain how.
Then he asked for money. I mean - COME ON!
You establish a relationship with a forum before you shake them down for funds.
So, yeah - I was rude to him, and he deserved it.

Please, don't go there. We all live in the same digital age. Nigerian scam letters and all of that. You don't deserve to be treated badly. As a member, you deserve fair treatment. But let's step back and look at this rationally. None of us "know" you. Your very first post is a request for money. None of us know ur history. You have lived through, ostensibly, some awful things. But how in the heck do we identify with this? Then, possibly justifiably, you post that last post. But again, how do we know for a fact u are not playing us? If everything you say is true, I'm awfully sorry for your situation. But please don't make us feel guilty for being skeptical. Think about that. I hope u find peace.

The OLF is one of the most sharing and giving places I have ever been associated with. Don't even begin to suggest it is anything but that. You will not win that argument.

Mike

My own experience with builders here on the OLF and other sites is that they are very free with their time, materials, tools, and access to their shops given some confidence in a student's commitment to craft.

Here's an idea - find a builder that will tolerate your presence (fresh-from-the-oven strawberry-rhubarb pies can be of initial assistance here), establish your truly indispensable nature in her shop by doing every scut job imaginable (start with cleaning the shop 'fridge - including the coils and that very nasty drip pan underneath), then move on to whatever seems the most in need of your talents (sweeping, scrubbing, organizing, coffee runs). In time, the offer to assist in building or repair work will come - but only after demonstrating both the desire and the work ethic to make even a token investment in your future worth their effort.

Uh! I've been on this forum a couple years or so. Have friends from other forums on here as well. I have to say I've never seen a post like this before. Anybody want to contribute to an old mans retirement fund? No! I guess I'll have to let that Nigerian Prince sore his money in my bank account. I'm posting this under duress you see there's bill collectors threatening my life. Sorry for your bad life experience. Don't worry you'll die at the end. Tell me how sucky is that?

OK guys, those who need the kick in the back side cut the Sinicism.

HillBilly. There certainly would have been a better way to go about your request. Bring the thought to Lance the owner of the forum, see what he says first. Let him make the post if he sees fit. As has been said you sort of hit us all with one of those "oh, another scam" type of post. Had you approached the forum owner, sought his approval, introduced yourself and your situation better, you may have come away with less strife.

I'm sorry there's no second chance for a first impression..... things might have turned out different.

My opinion, there certainly could've been a better way to do this, but let's all remember the Be nice rule and not let this post get out of hand. Regardless of how you feel about it.

Thanks

LanceK

I hope its time for this thread to fade away. I wish the op the best. Maybe start hanging out and building relationships. No need for any of us to be mean spirited.
