I've decided to tool up and start doing dovetail neck joints instead of M/T.
I have standard bits that are 7degree with a cut length of 1/2".

LMI's are 7 degree with 3/4 " LOC with a 1/2 shank.
the Stew mac's are 10 degree with 13/16 LOC with a 1/4 shank.

I suppose the 1/2 shank might be little more stable than the 1/4.

Do I need a longer LOC than what I have?

Does 10 degree have an advantage over 7 degree?

Thanks for your input.

It's better by 3 degrees. ;) 1/2" shank bits don't chatter as much as a 1/4", but where the dovetail portion of the bit joins at the shank is the weak spot. If you can hog out most of the joint with a straight bit, the dovetail bit will last longer.
I've broken so many D.T. bits for my Leigh jig, I buy them three at a time.

I use 9 degree . I guess a 10 would also work. Seven may be a little light on the angle.
