Anyone used it?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I used the kind they used to have (Target brand) and it was great. I just bought some of the new stuff but haven't tried it yet.

Hi Colin

I've used the stewmac water based but not as a spray, I've used the hand applied one. No problem with it as far as I'm concerned. Not as hard as a modern spray finish but not soft enough to put me off using it again.

I stopped using it because use tru oil is the same to apply and achieves similar results and less expensive

Cheers

Steve.

I have tried almost every Stew Mac waterborne offering since around 1998 and I have had good results from almost every one I tried. Some of the early versions were ether a little pink or blue tinted. They say this is the best they have used so far.
