I was considering ordering one of the Dewalt plunge trim routers, but noticed that there is also a plunge base available for the Bosch Colt. Has anyone tried the Colt plunge base?

Before you invest in a new Bosch Colt, read this: http://www.precisebits.com/lab_reports/ ... lt_TIR.htm

Thanks Mike. I already have several Bosch Colts. Been using them for several years with no issues.

To Alan's point -- we have at least twenty routers Bosch/Porter Cable /Dewalt) in the shop for hand and CNC (three machines) work all of them have stock collects and nuts never had a single issue. We are wood workers, I suppose if I were making race car engines I'd be more concerned. $.02

I've got several colts, including the plunge base. Each one stays set up for a specific luthiery tasks. I use my plunge base colt with my end graft jig. I really like the size, and a $100 each....

Best, M

Ok, I misunderstood. oops_sign You already have some of the older ones, and want to buy just the plunge base.

Btw, the new Colts are fine for general woodworking.

As I said before, I misunderstood. My link had nothing to do with Dewalt and PC. In fact, the new Dewalt is quickly becoming a favorite. I too have many Colts, all pre-2011. And they are all gems. One does not have to build race engines to appreciate the negative effects of melted bearing sleeves, bearing run out, and poor collet centering - all issues in the recent Colt routers. If someone were to ask, I'd tell them the same thing. If you have the older models, you are in good shape. I don't consider myself just a woodworker. I build guitars where detail lines matter (to me).

Peace
