OLFers your assistance is requested. Dave Collin's daughter, Ava is trying to win a new Old Town canoe that is the prize in a contest.

What you can do to help is to go to this link: https://www.facebook.com/OldTownCanoe?sk=app_403834839671843&brandloc=DISABLE&app_data=chk-54b66ed21aaaa and click on vote, cancel out the social media box that appears and then please vote for the video showing the bicycle towing a green canoe on a special trailer that Dave made. You may enjoy the video as well, I most certainly did.

You don't have to log in to anything to vote either, simply click the "vote" button for the video with the bike towing a canoe.

So please, please OLFers this contest is competitive and Ava is currently only several places back and could, with your very valued assistance win a new canoe!

Lance has approved this post in the guitar building forum and helping out as well with his vote(s) :D

Many thanks!

Also here is the original thread on the OLF that is in the Off Topic section. You may enjoy seeing some great pics of who you are helping out, Ava.

BTW Ava is an aspiring Luthier as well and a pretty good one too!!!

Thanks Hesh. Didn't realize the off-topic forum was private when I posted.

I got a late start, and two others had a few days lead on getting votes (plus I suspect they're gaming the polls, as always happens). I'll catch up though... with others help of course.

Hesh: Mission accomplished............looks like there is a bit of ground to cover though. Hope she wins!! Love your new tag or signature. But it seems to me that both competent and incompetent people would see themselves in the same canoe so to speak.......forgive the play on words here....I'm just wondering when assessments will be handed out or is this a self assessing type of thing..?? Take care and keep the spirit alive. All the best.
Tom

Thanks Tom!!!!! [:Y:]

My tag line is really something that we have heard and read for years here on the OLF compliments of John Hall. It's the idea that none of us especially me.... :D can know what we don't know until we know it... if that ever happens....

I have to tell you that if we did an inventory of my own personally previously held Lutherie notions and measured them against what we know to be true now after gaining lots of experience that I would be batting about -1000.... :? :D There is a personal assessment for you...;)

Or in other words someone who has adored and been passionate about guitars for their entire existence on this planet (and perhaps others too....) may still have some things to learn. This is certainly true in my case.

In short - if you want to get good at Lutherie you have to somehow keep a very open mind to the possibility that we may not know as much as we think that we know. That's all I am using the Kruger quote to highlight and I think that this quote does it very well at least for me.

Thanks again Tom!!!

Anything to help out a budding lady luthier, done!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

You can vote from any different network you might be a part of. I voted from home last night and just got another vote in from school.

Many thanks guys, Ava is only one vote short of second place and climbing fast with the OLF's help!!!

We still need lots of additional votes so if you have not voted yet in this Old Town Canoe contest please vote for Ava's video, the one with the bike pulling the canoe.

Many, many thanks!!!! [clap] [clap] [clap]

And coffee-shopped. Looks like you're within 30 votes! Here's for the come from behind victory.

Paddling's rad. I'd love to have a kayak or something.

Did it yesterday. I tried again from my phone and from my wife's computer but unfortunately I only have one vote in. Good luck David and I hope others will step in and make this an OLF win for you and your daughter!

Many thanks gentlemens! Ava is now in FIRST PLACE!!!! Woo Hoo!!!

The power of the OLF is considerable we see!

The fat lady has some days left before she can sing so we still need as many votes for Ava as we can get.

I just figured out that I can set-up a hot spot with my phone..... ;) :D

I tried logging in and out of the OLF and Facebook but either way I can't vote again....but we do have a few thousand members here. Lets help David and Ava in the true spirit of the OLF.
