I run a whole-house free standing unit from Lowes. Now into its 4th year, works great. $150 if I remember.

Here on the lee side of the Rockies, it is not uncommon to see 20% indoor RH on the cold days.
So...
I run a HoneyWell TrueSteam unit that can dump 12 gallons of water a day into the forced air system when needed.....

In the winter I like to keep the temp at 74 degrees because I hate cold... I run a Honywell furnace humidifier as well as a whole house MoistAir evaporator which keeps my house and shop area at 45 to 50% humidity. Last year it was nothing to have to fill both 7 gallon tanks on the MoistAir once a day plus how ever many gallons my furnace unit was pumping. This year I will have to buy another MoistAir for my new shop. I don't have it finished yet and am just getting ready to buy a overhead gas furnace for it so it will be interesting to see how many gallons more I will be pumping for my new shop.

Because I repair guitars I have always kept the humidity controlled all year long to 45 or 50%. De-humidifier or Air conditioning in the summer and humidifier in the winter.

I use a Drizair-1200. It's a portable commercial rig, plugged into a Dayton humidistat. They are a bit pricy. Mine has been running 24-7 for the last 3 years. I'm not into buying disposable products...
