Personally I like it.
But of course (if it's a seller) it's the customers that will decide.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

This is the first time I have heard the notion that they are cheesy, do people really think that?

I have a pretty hard/fast rule about pick guards; I don't like them! That being said, I think what you have there works really well and looks great. Well done. Now take that thing off!

I think I'll include both options in the case and let the ndp user decided myself, I like it. Today.

I've seen a lot of ugly and bulky wooden guards. This one however I kinda like. I'm a clear guard guy myself. But I do think that guard goes well with that guitar.

normally I really dislike wooden guards, but this one looks decent. I wouldn't choose it myself, but it's for sure not cheesy.

Thin, clear on a strummer --- nothing on a finger-picker

The pick guard is fine. What really makes me mad is how clean the shop looks.

A pick guard is there for top protection. You don't want to add more weight than you need to as that can be a tone killer. If you like it that is all that matters. The downside to them is that they will shrink at a different rate from the top and eventually they may cause a top crack. You have finish between the guard and the top , you should be ok in that regard .
If you and the customer like it , that is all that matters.

Weighs no more than a tortoise guard. I'll lye whomever buys it be the filnal arbiter...

James,

Gotta be a clean shop. We usually have 8-12 going on at different stages at any given time. They must be put somewhere, and that somewhere must be a safe spot for them. Clean shop means less re-do's from precarious positioning. Plus, less dust...

I like the look. I've been thinking of trying a wood pickguard. How thick did you make it? What kind of finish did you put on it?

Ed, This is my own taste. I prefer the no pick guard or the clear pick guard. I like the clean look of a completely bare top exposing all the beautiful top wood. I also prefer the simple symmetry of the no/invisible pick guard. That being said, that is a great looking guitar. Thx, Tony

I actually think a wood pick guard would look great. My issue is that I would hate to get any pick scratches on my nice wood pick guard.

Personally I don't go for the wooden pickguards. But I think it looks great and I love that everyone has different tastes!
