Anyone know anything about them? Any recos? I could start from scratch, but I don't want to take a whole pile of time away from guitar building.

As always, thanks in advance.

Steve

I don't know of any good dulcimer kits. Free plans are available on line. My suggestion would be to read up on dulcimer making and then make your own. Dulcimers have many of the same considerations as guitars in their construction. Keeping weight off the soundboard (hollowing the fretbox) and getting good coupling at the saddle are two elements to making the instrument reasonably loud.Using a softwood soundboard also helps in this regard.
Dulcimers are generally more simply built, without linings, elaborate strutting, purflings or bindings. Relatively narrow plates make humidity considerations less critical. Dulcimers are fun and easy to build. There is a lot of latitude in how to build them.

Thanks Alex. BTW, we're having a bit of an open house tomorrow, 1 to 4. If you'd like to stop by, you're more than welcome.

9828 Oak Ridges Dr.
Baltimore, ON

Basically, you come down County Rd 28 from Peterborough, hang a left at CR 9, and keep going till you get to 9828. It's between CR 18 and CR 45.

Love to see/meet you.

Steve

Thanks for the invite, Steve. I'm pretty sure my afternoon is free, so I'll try to make it there!
