I'm installing the truss rod and I'm finding the rod drops in nicely in the bolted on neck and the adjusting nut clears the top and every thing works well.
I routed the slot in the neck deep enough to allow for a filler strip on an Allied rod.
My question:
Is the rod extension slot on the top always necessary?
The video i'm watching calls for the slot.
I'm thinking I'm good to go but would like a second opinion so I don't booger-up things at this late stage.
"I had a friend who that happened once too".

It makes adjusting the truss rod much easier if you have the slot. My tops have always been thicker than the offset space above the adjustment head to not slot the top anyway - it's a tight fit at least.
