I followed dan erlewine/s thread on drop filling a ding with laquer an ca after I finished lightly sanding with abt 8k micromesh I didn/t like the look , so I used a small artist brush an touched up the area the size of a dime with some behlens laquer./acetone My question in order to meld the laquer into the surrounding area it/s abt a 1mil thickness on a wrc top , how long should I wait to buff out the laquer? should I wait 3 weeks ,start at abt 15oo grit an work my way through the micromesh grits, and then buff out using laquer buffing compounds ? i have some meguirs number 2 , 7 and 9 buffing polish ,suggestions ?? thanks

it/s a ramirez, so I think it looks like laquer. I will let it sit . The fill is sitting abt .001/2 in higher than the surrounding finish. I /l wait to blend it in thanks filppo

This is the real key to getting a drop fill to be less visible. But be aware that turning a hook on a razor blade is not easy (at least for me). I had to ruin a lot of razor blades before I got the process down. The trick is to put a lot of pressure on your burnisher at about a 45 degree angle to the blade.

I used a burr w/razor blade already to level off the first laquer /ca fill this morning , but after sanding the dime size area looked too dull , so added a second coat of laquer .It too will have to be levelled but vy gently and then sanded up to 8k an buffed

The best way that I've found to get a CA fill to look good on laquer is to level sand the filled area with all the sandpaper grits stuck to a flat surface, and then even buff the final buff with the cloth held against the flat surface.

I find that the CA buffs slower than the laquer, and so will be visible later, as by the time the CA is shiny, some laquer has worn away around it leaving it unlevel.

Using the backer board fixed that and now they are invisible when I'm done.
