I have found Trimaco's Wonder Rags to be ideal for french polishing - absolutely no lint. There was a small flood in my shop while I was out of town & my son used my last 3 boxes of these to clean up the mess. After unsuccessfully trying to buy some more, I called Trimaco to see why no one had them in stock. The Trimaco rep said that they stopped producing them because of a shortage of raw materials, not because of a lack of demand. If anyone has a box or two you are willing to part with and sell, please PM me. Thanks!

I ran across another product very similar, I missed getting then name, but grabbed myself a sample.

Well, This explains why my local outlet stopped carrying them.
Fortunately, when I started to use an alternative for general needs I set aside a number of individual Wonder rags for FP covers so I have a year or two supply.
Anyone indentified a good substitute?

I tried the micro-fiber thing, and...big yawn. I go back and forth between a traditional wool-filled, cotton covered muneca, and cotton tee-shirt material folded up. Both get a suggestion of pumice on the surface. For me, this works better than micro-fiber.

Pumice isn't the issue for me Eric (I don't use it or oil in my FP regimen).
What I like about the microfiber is the long wearing quality, smoothness and the slight stretchiness of the material which gives a nice surface and form to the pad and one which lasts a long time.

I haven't tried Wonder Rags, but for French Polish, my best results are with 100% cotton, muslin sheeting. $0.50 will buy a queen size or double sheet at an attic/garage sale, and is good for 12 or 15 guitars. Also available by the pound from linen service companies when they sell off their damaged goods.

Microfibre for me, too. It just doesn't wear out, but I don't use oil or pumice, either.

I find the really fine cloths that you can get for polishing spectacles are great, if a little expensive on a per square meter basis. But then, they don't wear out...

Trimaco is once again producing Wonder Rags. They were first available at Home Depot & Sherwin-Williams. Looks like Amazon & others now have them as well.

I bought a queen sized set of microfiber bed sheets for 15 $ a few months ago...wonder how that stuff would compare to the Wonder Rags ?

Thanks to this little tip, the french polishing rubber I use in a week or so is going to have a PRADA logo on it!
