Whats up?

I feel as though it has been an eternity since I have actually posted anything here. Life gets busy - I transition to a lurker I suppose.

Anyway, I have kept up building, and am finishing up a couple acoustics and electrics. I wanted to share this one with you, as I find its simplicity to be quite striking. As noted, it is an EIR B&S with a carpathian top. All accents are EIR as well. Straight up and simple.

It sounds bright - the brightest guitar I have yet built. Typically with this larger body style (GA) I get a more foundational bass response. While it is still there with this guitar, the mids and trebles definately carry more sound energy, and overweigh the low end. It is great for a singer songwriter application, which is where it is headed, so I am happy.

Anyway, thank! Keep on building!
Stephen

Superb.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Great looking guitar. I especially like your choice of binding and perfling. Very nice combo!

Most excellent looking guitar!
Is that 5 purfling lines in there?
Really good photos. Like the tie-dye background.

'Straight up and simple.' Modest to say the least sir. Simply beautiful! Very tempting to put in an order!

The top bindings and purflings, with the soundhole binding really cuts out the shape from the rest of the picture, it makes the guitar shape really stand out from the background, I love it!

Thanks guys...seriously, this place is great - with people that actually understand what goes into these things.

I did something a little different with this one - I put the bindings in at .08" thick, which when combined with the face purfling, gave me a large surface to nearly put a .125 radius rollover on the entire top. This makes the guitar feel nicer than any I have built, sans an actual armrest bevel.

Quite beautiful! Love the silking on the top, and I'm a big fan of simple appointments.
Question: Do you think the brightness comes from the Carpathian top, or did you do something different in the bracing/construction that you believe accounts for the difference?
