Here are a few quick snaps of my latest, a Carpathian spruce and Claro walnut Odalisque cutaway. My first arm bevel and ribrest (I've done another since starting this one). Proper glamour shots forthcoming. Thanks for looking!ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Beautiful! I've seen quite a few arm bevels but that is the first ribrest I have ever seen. It makes so much sense. Beautiful guitar!

Look up my friend Joel Stehr, callyrox. He's doing this kind of thing too.

Beautiful work, Ken. I like that bridge a lot. That Walnut is stunning!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I'm a little beat after a red spruce run and social call to John Arnold and Nathan Hampton over the mountain in Tennessee today. We almost hit a bear on I-40 coming back. That'll wake you up.

Right off I should mention that the shot of the top is distorted in that the upper bout appears larger than it is. It's not that peanut-shaped. The shortcomings of the IPhone camera.

Callyrox, I appreciate your noticing the ribrest -- those things are hard to do! Much harder than the arm bevel. I will say that I changed the geometry of it on the next one I did (and finished first) to be more elongated into both bouts. It's more fluid and elegant. Both the arm and ribrest are super-comfortable, I'm going to enjoy it while it's around!

All in all I'm very happy with this guitar -- tonally it's very strong right out of the gate, if slightly "tight" -- it's still learning that it's a guitar. It's punchy and projects well, but also responds well to soft playing, and there's a good bit of low end growl for a medium-bodied guitar. The trebles are clear, and the guitar seems balanced overall.

The Claro Walnut I got from Todd Rose, via Bruce Creps at Notable Tonewoods. I know this because I pulled a doofus-of-the-month move on the first nearly-complete back, and called Bruce in desperation for a new back set. I sent him a pic of the original, and he found a set that looked like it was from the same flitch. Amazing! I really love the Carpathian top, which I think came from Jonathan Razo (utarazo), which ultimately probably came from John Preston at Old World Tonewoods. John's a great guy to work with, too.
The neck is naturally that color -- nice dark brick red Honduran from local chair-builder, Brian Boggs. And lastly, the finish is Cardinal Lacquer, which is crazy expensive, but I really love the results. It's very tough and very clear -- next time I'll probably tint it a bit more, either in the shellac sealer coats or mixed with the finish. Thanks again all!

Hey Stuart, is The Recording Project still kicking?
