I bought a padauk fingerboard and bridge from rc tonewoods. As usual, very nice products from them... But the padauk is freshly cut and very orange. I know that with time and with sunlight the color will darken. But is there any way to hasten the process? ...Maybe hydrogen peroxide...? I was thinking a nice burgundy fingerboard and bridge would look nice with my Peruvian walnut B&S... I don't want to make a clown guitar...

I wouldn't mess with it. It will darken pretty fast in sunlight. Padauk glues up best when freshly planned or sanded. Regular Titebond works well. I have seen issues if you allow it to sit for a while after jointing then trying to glue it up....Mike

Peroxide will bleach... potassium dichromate will do what you want very very quickly, but like Mike said padauk will turn dark fairly quickly on its own. Also if you oil the fb and bridge the oil should turn them a deep red immediately.

Ammonia will darken some woods quite a lot. There's no need to fume something this small. Just wet it with regular 'janitor strength' ammonia. It really depends on the wood though, and I haven't tried it with padauk. TEST ON SCRAP! duh I'd personally not use potassium dichromate on something I was going to be touching for long periods of time.

That said, just oil will darken it very substantially.

Why not just use a fingerboard that's already the right color and give that one to me?
