Does anybody have some suggestions for purfling sources? I know there are the usual suspects like LMI and Stew Mac and it looks like Allied has some different ones... I'd like to find some purfs of various thicknesses and various woods. I don't want to make my own - I just want to buy them...
Thanks,
Steve

Check out Gurian's website. He has a section where you can buy overruns and seconds, with a minimum purchase of like $50 or so. Good place to pick up some nice stuff. I have bought several that I like. May have to buy bundles of 40 pieces or so, but if you use it, it goes fast.

I used some of these on the latest. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FRENCH-STYLE-VI ... 5d2f598d2a

The Pear is nice. A bit darker than Maple. And they're French Style. That has to be good.

Quartered or flat Wood, in a vice, sharp plane, plane off nice long single passes. Steam iron them out flat, glue em together, rip into strips. Simple eh.

Holly makes a nice white. Pear, spruce, pine, fir make a nice cream. All of these are easy benders.
Black ebony is obvious...however dark IRW is acceptable. Heck me has even used chocolate cedar and pine....something nice and warm about that combo.

You wanna really detail the sucker...make your own purf from somthin udder than that bwb fiber crap.

Ok pics worth more than babble...next time me runnin some ...me post pics... but don't be holdin yer breath. laughing6-hehe
