I agree that the page is getting a bit cluttered and distracting. On some other forums (or fora, if you like) I've seen horizontal bars used to separate the stickied topics from the regular posts. Some visual cue like that may help the eye know where to start reading, while preserving a prominent place for FAQs and notices, etc.

Just a thought,

If someone would pin this thread Filippo wouldn't have to keep bumping it

I agree; it's time for a housecleaning, as it takes a lot of scrolling to get past all the sponsors and pinned threads and such.

Get Tony_in_NYC to post a picture in each of the pinned threads and they'll be quickly pulled.

What about combining similar pinned topic into one post, or just make a "read this if you are a newbie" thread? The purpose of pinned thread is to have important information for newbies, and a large number of pinned post just confuses the heck out of them.

I was wondering where all these pinned threads are.
Whenever I visit the OLF, I click on 'View active topics' so all I see is active topics.

quit bumping this topic! every time someone bumps it, it ends up just below the umpteen pinned topics. No one will ever see it there; it will just keep getting scrolled past. . .

So no more bumping! Oops!

Maybe Lance is trolling us by seeing how long we'll keep manually pinning a thread about pinning.

I agree. Less pins. And the star thing is quite annoying and not useful. I like the "thanks" button though.

Ever get the feeling you're being ignored?
Tip - Page Down button gets you there faster than scrolling.
(Maybe that should be posted in the Tutorials Section? beehive )

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Every time I see that post that "the OLF is 10 years today" I think that the Bill Murray movie Groundhogs Day has become real.
