I'm using StewMac Red Mahogany tinted lacquer to hide the terrible job I did on a sunburst on my Beard resonator kit guitar.
I don't want to do clear coats of lacquer on top of it. I breathed enough lacquer doing the color - even with a good mask. I'd like to do the top coats in PolyWhey.
Anybody done that?

You could call the folks at Vermont Coatings and ask - they're very helpful. I suspect at a minimum you would need a few coats of shellac to seal. I wonder if anything from the lacquer might bleed through over time?
