I have a Planet Waves Tru Strobe, bought mainly because of its attractive price. I get slightly different readings when I use the internal mic and when I use a clip-on sensor that goes directly in. I can't see why there would be a difference, but have been deferring to the sensor.
What are your experiences with strobe tuners: Planet Waves, Petersen, or apps that are available for iPad?

Love my Peterson. Have not noticed any variances in readings based on input, but I do not use the mike if I can help it.

I think the iphone/ipad app works great

I use a windows phone but keep my old I phone around for the Peterson app I purchased for it.....hard to beat!!!!!

Seems if you're getting different readings I'd tune it according to whether you're going to be playing purely acoustically or amplified.

I had my iPhone disconnected from the vendor because our family was paying way too much in cell phone charges. Also, the only calls were from my daughter looking for her mother who never answers her phone!
Anyway, like weslewis, I keep it around for the Peterson tuner app. It works really well. I play a lot along with .mp3's and my guitars sound really good, so it must be pretty accurate.

Todd, you're right, that iPhone app would not work well with others being around and a lot of noise. Even though it supposedly filters background noise, I wouldn't want to try it. As you, I'd use the Snark or something else.

I have always used regular tuners to set intonation and they always seem to work great. (asuming my hearing is good!) Do you think I would benefit by using some sort of strobe tuner? Anything for Android?

I am not using a strobe to tune a guitar. I can do that by ear with better results than tuning strings to a pure c.p.s. number. What I am using a strobe for is determining the amount of flatting the first fret gets for each string and watching how the other frets react to changing this distance and the amount of compensation at the other end of the string. Al Carruth has written on this topic. It is possible to get very nice 3rds and 5ths by decreasing the distance from the first fret to the nut. The challenge is that it varies from string to string and scale length.
