So, what was your favorite repair in recent memory? Was it a really cool guitar that came in? Perhaps an odd or challenging repair? This one just came in and made me chuckle, well after I settled a bit. Guess this was one way to fix a loose bridge pin.......

A 60s Gibson LG-0 with all the strings wound backwards on the tuners, and a nail epoxied on top of the bridge as a saddle, which actually worked quite well.

My favorite ever was a 30s L-00 with the back and neck joint glued contact cement.

Anyway, looks familiar - Speedy recover, and I hope it all heals OK.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

That's the bottom half of the plastic bridge pin that was in that hole. Don't know where the top half went....it went flying off somewhere when it snapped while i was trying to pull it. Had to drive that piece out.

No pics, but a bird's nest (that's right, a bird's nest) inside of an Alvarez lawsuit version of the Gibson Dove. The owner brought it in because the soundboard was separating on the bass side of the lower bout. Quite the head scratcher regarding the nest. They didn't know it was in there. LOL

My cousin just repaired an upright bass that had the back in the lower bout held closed with some bubble gum. :/

I've been working on a J45 restoration for quite a while. It showed up in a black plastic trash bag in the back of a pickup.

I've got two restorations going. One is an old ladder braced acoustic that was in a fire. It happens. I don't consider that abuse, just bad luck.
The other is a Kay archtop the owner left outside on his semi-covered(his description) porch for 10-12 years. "Can you put it back the way it was?" gaah

I slipped with a razor blade. It's much better now after a hospital glue job. They neglected to clean up the squeeze out though.

Hide would leave less of a glue line, and would be easier to repair in the future. Then there's the tonal qualities...
