These are posts from a Salyer and Son upright piano of Los Angeles, 1920's? Curious as to what the species is. It feels like a light hardwood, with a pungent smell.

Thanks for any ideas, it is on its way to becoming a ukulele now, the kalimba is the wood with some finish on it.

There are a couple of other boards in 1 x size from the same piano that appear to be ash, this does not have open pores like ash.

Smells more like a gym locker then a cigar box, but the feel and look is similar. I don't think the piano makers of the time used anything but North American wood.

Could it be a very light colored, or sap piece of Walnut? I have disposed of a few pianos and have found some of them to contain a fair amount of Walnut.
