That's funny.

I was talking to a salesman and he asked if I was on the old or the new web site and I think I screamed, "You have a new web site?" Which I guess says even more about their old web site that it's even hard to find, or even know there's a new web site, from the old one. Any way I told him they had long ago won "the most difficult, hardest to figure out web site award," and he agreed, we had a chuckle.

Light years better than before. It even feels like it loads pages faster. They must have moved off of that old Atari 2600 server they had been using.

I sure managed to use the heck out of the old one. The new one looks nice too.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to check it out. The old one was so bad I just stopped going.

This for me, too. Never had a moments problem using the old site. And I'm on dial up and using a very old laptop. Pages loaded fine, and had zero problems finding anything I needed.
The new layout is nice, but I don't really see a significant difference in the way it works or in how you get around on it. You still basically navigate using a drop down menu on the left, same as before.
But it does have a different look. And it does look nice.
Edited to add: After fooling around a bit more, I see you can use the links at the top of the page to navigate as well as the drop down on the left. And it's nice to be able to move on to the next item without returning to the homepage. So, kudos to the improvements. They are great!

About the only thing I didn't like about the old site was the way things got added to the cart, that was not real intuitive otherwise I didn't have any trouble.

All the wood suppliers in Taiwan could really use a website... makes them so much easier to find.

If you Google Luthiers mercantile your still taken to the old site. Maybe they should take it down before it scares off more potential customers.

I don't see much difference, other than the background colors, between the old and new sites?

And since it's a beta test only for now, I hope they can improve the "search" function.
(A search ...eg. "tailpiece", yields a long list of product descriptions & categories. I much prefer the Lee Valley style results showing thumbnail images with a link below.... much quicker finding what you want.)

Well....its not as awful as the old one. I always wonder about LMI. They seem to have such contempt for their customers. Slow slow slow handling and shipping, useless website for the past 12 years, "new" website that's still pretty lame. Their only redeeming factor is a better selection of purfling and ivoriod binding.
I think I'll still shop elsewhere

Yeah, I probably couldn't disagree more.
I was a customer of LMI long before they became a sponsor of the OLF. I know most of the people that work there and my experiences have been all positive. Slow shipping has never been a issue, and to imply that they some how have contempt for their customers is silly...
There website was not useless either, I could navigate through that site lickety split! I know it like the back of my hand. :D

I've never had any trouble from them in my limited experience. Always great stuff and shipped timely. I managed the old site without much issue but the new one is much nicer IMO.

I think they are a little slower shipping to the East Coast but no surprise - I've never felt that it was delayed in any way. There will always be regional variations that way. Our McMaster-Carr local shipments originate from the next town over and they use private delivery services for local deliveries. I've gotten stuff from them within an hour!

And the notion of contempt for their customers? What planet you from? I've had at least two instances where I complained a little about the quality of a piece of wood I've received (blah figure, maybe a crack) and they've replaced them all immediately and without question. I see them as being totally reliable. They have always gone out of their way to respond to questions about their items, or to help with tool setup problems, etc.

+1. They are a little slow to the East Coast compared to StewMac. Takes SM 3 days at most to deliver to me here in Virginia, and LMI takes 5 days. But LMI is shipping from California, so no big deal. I can wait a couple more days.
The quality of their woods, even seconds, is top notch. They definitely beat SM there, plus their selection is great, IMHO. The quality of their service is second to none, IME. Any problem I've ever had with them (few) was dealt with in an incredibly professional way, and quickly. Even when the problem was on my end, not theirs. As long as they stick to that kind of service, I'll be a customer for life.
