The StewMac directions for the SaddleMatic suggest the treble side pin be set 1/16" from the body of the tool but the angle on the pin won't allow it to be set that close (3/32" if that). Have you seen this as well and do you just bend the pin to more of a right angle to get it to the proper 1/16" clear of the tool body? Can't see how bending that tip could cause any problems but wanted ask first.

Yes, you will need to bend it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Simon, Hate to ask such simple questions but on the other hand I wonder why StewMac sends it out that way? Has anyone at StewMac ever used a SaddleMatic, or maybe there's another reason.

You can counter sink the hole a bit on that side so the radius of the bend can be moved closer.

I got my SM about a month ago and the holes are countersunk but not enough to get the pin in to a 1/16" depth. I bent the pin and all is well but still surprised at the QC or lack thereof.

My main surprise has been how hard the dang thing is to adjust.

I made mine and use flat head screws for marking the compensation. Easy to adjust, flat head to set your pencil against for marking and they lock in place with set screws.
