I purchased some nice old mahogany church pews today. Most of the boards for the backs of the pews are 1" x 5" skew cut around 45 degrees. I was thinking on doing 4 piece backs. What are your thoughts on using skew cut mahogany (pretty sure it's honduran) for backs and sides?

Thanks, Chuck

Hi,

me being not native English speaking, I don't know the exact meaning of "skew". tried some translators, and if it is what I think it is, I would try to avoid it...have a picture?

cheers, alex

Thanks Chris, maybe should have said rift sawn or off quarter, with annual rings at a 45 degree angle with the face of the board.
