I plan on making my bending form solid (because I want to). With that in mind, do I need a piece of metal under the wood still?

Thanks Todd. That was what I was hoping to hear.

I have been using solid forms made from MDF. I have the blanket between the wood and the form and have had no problems.

I have only done it once, but I used a solid form with a slat under the wood and the blanket on top of the wood, Kraft paper, tin foil sandwich, then a slat on top of the blanket. Worked fine for me.
