I'm bending some nice Honduran Mahogany (Todd Stock's method, thanks Todd) and it is bending wonderfully. No problems whatsoever on the bends. The problem is, this stuff wants to split along the grain if you look at it wrong. Even the off-cuts that haven't been heated do exactly the same thing.
Question is ----- Is this normal and what I should expect from Honduran Mahogany, or is there something else going on here?

Thanks,

Bill

Overall it isn't very brittle. But....I've had a couple pieces that cracked from fairly minor bumps. Its like a bad grain line that just wants to pop open. Fortunately for me I usually find these problems before finishing the guitar due to my ham-fisted shop skills gaah

Have never seen it as willing to crack as you describe it. Think I'd be looking at replaceing rather then fighting it and have cracks showing up in the finished body.

Hey,
Thanks guys. This stuff does have a lot of figure, so I guess I'll just deal with it. So far, no other splits on the other two sets.
