I am installing Gotoh open back tuners part number GNS1B from LMI on my first guitar. I have not been able to find any instructions on installing these. I am confused about what size hole to drill for the shaft and how to counter bore for the bushing.

The shaft is 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) but by the housing where the shaft sets, the diameter is .295 inches (7.5 mm). Should I drill the through hole 0.295 inches or will 1/4 through hole be best to use.
What is the best way to put in the counter sink for the bushing?

Thanks

EddieLee

Eddie,

That little lip is only 2mm tall, so I just use a countersink. Keep the rest of the hole at 1/4". You want a good fit for the shaft.

Drill a 1/4 inch hole all the way thru .. then drill for the countersink on the back end/plate of the tuner. You will need a Stwe mac drill/reamer for the bushing - I think the std size for waverlies works fine .. but measure the bushings to be sure

just experiment with different bits on a piece of scrap made of the same wood and find what works best
