Hi, All!

This is my latest acoustic guitar, and as the title says, it was made of Zapatero, and sports a sitka top.

Back and sides, bridge and fingerboard, neck, headstock veneer, and pickguard are all Zapatero. This Zapatero was reclaimed from the bottom of the Panama Canal. This one is going to the guy down there who is overseeing the logging operation.

This is my seventh acoustic effort, and I'm starting to be happier with the results. My finishing is definitely getting better, although I'm still kind of glad that my pictures aren't good enough to see too much.

We still got to hook up one of these days. Heck we're only 30-40 mins down the highway from each other....

What is your impression of the zapatero in terms of workability and tone? It looks nice.

I don't know Zapatero wood, but I know it looks good! Nice guitar!

Thank you for your kind words. Sorry I have been so long getting back to y'all- I was at a craft fair over the weekend, and work has been like drinking from a firehose for the last week and a half.

Rod- I couldn't agree more. We're practically neighbors. I'll be sure to give you a fair warning next time I hit the road going west.

Charlie- I like working with zapatero. It glues, sands, and bends really well. It smells like antiseptic. It requires a fair bit more pore filling than Indian Rosewood, but that's not a deal breaker for me. Tonally, I would say it has a bit more clarity than Indian Rosewood, with a bit less warmth (could that also be interpreted as "muddiness"?) It makes a great bluegrass guitar, with a really good "crack". Overall, I prefer zapatero to EIR, and one of these days I would like to build one for myself.

Tony-ask BobC if he still has some. I know he has had a little bit in the past...
