I am building a guitar that will have a rosewood fingerboard. I purchased a presloted board from a well known supplier. the fingerboard looks like rosewood to me (what kind of rosewood I don't know). I also ordered a rosewood bridge blank from the same supplier. It looks like purple heart!? Then I ordered some rosewood bridge blanks from a different supplier. They look like rosewood but feel very heavy (dense). How do you get fingerboards and bridge blanks that match?

I would order both at the same time after verifying that they could supply similar pieces for both.
Even the same species of wood can vary at lot in density and colour.

I have several purchases of East Indian Rosewood bridges ranging from a light, almost sandy coloured, to heavy and dark, purplish/brown colour.

Time (and lemon oil) will darken a fretboard,

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
