Hello,

Tried to post but the page disappeared on me. Well let me start again. Just moved from the states to upper Austria and was wondering if any active luthiers are in the area or Austria for that matter. I know there are many violin and other instrument makers but I'm still learning the language and it's a bit intimidating to try and talk to one especially since I'm a newbie. Always wanted to try this craft and this point in my life is the perfect chance for me to have a go at it. Would like to start my test guitar soon and will need to get tools as I go along(going to start researching hand tools) please correct me if I'm wrong on this but I'm goin to start an electric since they are less complex or as so it seems. In theory I guess anything could be more complex if you wanted it that way, but I'm talking basics here. I have to learn this stuff first before I think about doing anything special. got a few books to start with:

Making an archtop guitar
Siminoffs glossary
Guitarmaking tradition and technology
Classic guitar construction Irving sloane
And thinking of order an eletric guitar making book Melvyn hiscock

I found lots of tutorials and great information online including lurking these forums for weeks.
Just thought I'd give a little intro since I'm going to be asking tons of questions and I'm sure it gets old from many other amateurs comin here.

Thanks guys. Found a instrument maker here in town going to try and visit them. They are pretty well known in the town by the people here. Other than trying to get a feel with the place should I look or ask about anything specific?

Hello,

I can't help you about Austria, but since you leave there you will certainly be able to get some really good spruce and make an excellent guitar
The only german speaking legendary luthiers I have heard about are Blazer & Henkes but they are based in Germany, probably a nice visit to plan, tho.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to plan accordingly there about 4-5 hours away from where I am. The closest person I know who lives near Stuttgart is in Ulm or maybe Karlsruhe but dot know if they can house me lol. I've been researching wood species around here seems like the spruce is coveted here for the tone so ill be taking advantage of that. I thought about cutting some down and drying them in a barn.
