I have a 21 x 20 garage that I am using for both building and keeping cars out of the weather. Everything on wheels.

I have a Jet DC-650 dust collector that is pretty much dedicated to my Performax 16/32 thickness sander.

This seems to work "fair" - but I still end up with a bunch of dust in the air and on the floor and on EVERYTHING in my garage.

I also have a simple shop-vac with a O'Neida Dust Deputy system.

I'm sort of piggy-backing off the other dust collection thread - in hopes that you that you who know, can teach me about what I need to have.

I have the following tools I use in my garage/shop: thickness sander, band saw, drill press, rigid spindle sander, 4" belt/disk sander, and a small router table.

So.... not evening knowing where to begin, do I need a ceiling mount air filtering system - or some other type of dust collection system with tubes connected to all items where possible - or both?

I could use a basic tutorial.

I recommend googling 'Bill Pentz' with 'dust collection.'
There is a lot of information, so much that it is hard to absorb. It sounds to me like you're an ideal canditate for a well ducted cyclone system. I'd love one. My shop is physically too small for one...unless I knock out a joist or two, which I think might be bad...
I have a little 1hp collector with a canister ducted to my edge sander and tablesaw, but it's not getting the stuff that you really need to be concerned with. I can feel the process of sensitization happening, constant runny nose, face flushed feeling, itchy lungs etc., even though I wear a good respirator most of the time. So I would recommend getting a jump on things....

I don't know much about dust collection. All I use is a Home Depot shop vac but I did add an Oneida dust devil, the small one. The kind you mount on top of a 5 gallon can. It is the best investment I ever made. You may already have one on your system. If you don't you need one. Now the vac canaster stays empty, and the filters clean. I just empty the 5 gallon.
