Bad idea?

I'm kind of having a hard time visualizing what you mean. Did you draw it up? Seems to me that the cut out would bu HUGE.

No, it's not drawn up, but for example I have a Takamine EG440SC

that has a pretty deep cutuway but a thin rosette. If it had a thick classical style rosette, the cutaway would at least meet the edge of it. I made a mold insert that has a deep cutaway like that but Florentine style because I like the extra access to the fretboard on the Takamine. But, I also have a pretty thick rosette, so it looks like the cutaway is going to go right to the edge if I don't shave the insert down some.

I think with the binding it would look like a mistake. You don't really want to have design details running together . just my 2 cents.

Yes, after thinking about it, I decided to go ahead and trim the form insert down. I hadn't wanted to, because I wanted the deep cutaway as well as having already braced up the soundbaord and back, but everything should still work. Thanks for the input.

Yeah, that's what I meant, but with a solid rosette instead of a 3 ring like the pic. So, I'm not sure if it would have looked as good as the guitar in the photo which has the thin ring flowing into the purf. Thanks for the help guys:)

I think the third ring blending with the Purfling looks nice and classy. I'm just saying....OMO.

the design with the outer ring would look like you planned to do it , I think hitting into a main rosette would look like a boo boo . That outer tie in does look sharp

I've done one with a very long cutaway that interrupts the outer ring of the rosette and think it looks fine.

Here's one I'm working on right now. Sorry it's in VERY rough shape and I just installed half of the radial purfs to show how it should tie together at the end. The photo is from a phone so sorry for the bad quality
