I finished new fretboards and a new fretboard gluing caul last week and yesterday finished the sanding blocks. Using a compound radius on the boards required a new gluing caul, new sanding blocks, and a new set of fret pressing arbors....what a project. A lotta work but I think the compound radius is worth it.

I have worked on the Black Limba 12 fret neck and bridge on mid week, strung up and set up Friday. I added a clear pickguard yesterday and did a bit of playing on it ( several hours ) today. I actually finished up a Cocobolo Dreadnought last weekend and will post some pictures when I get a pickguard on it, Dreads look strange to me without a pickguard. Both sound real good and I hope to post some videos when I get a chance to do it with one of my more talented picking buddies

Yup, working on this telecaster I intend to be my first sale in between exam studying. Flame maple top, swamp ash body, flame maple neck with an ebony fretboard and headstock plate. Hoping to do an inlay of van gogh's skeleton and do a tobacco sunburst... Will call her la nicotina.

And plan to play a bit on this guy that I strung up a few weeks ago. I am enjoying having it in the shop quite a bit:

nice pics guys!
there was some nice weather and managed to glue sides to top on my current build. also glued kerfed linings that if can notice are about 2 o 3mm above the line of the sides on the lower bout, thats because the sides came dimensioned to an already narrow size. and needed to make it deeper.
its WRC on wengue.

Hey, Burton,
First of all, that is a very cool concept for a cutaway on the top surface only. Wow.
Now, you will pardon me (I hope) for this next comment because I don't mean it in a negative way at all: What is going on with the back of that peg head? I swear it looks like a cheese grater to me. Which is really a rather rad and cool concept when you get right down to it. I swear, man, I am not making mock of this thing. I think it's cool, but I do want to know what is actually going on with that.

As for me, no shop time this weekend. I went oil painting outdoors instead. Nothing to show for it at the end of the day. I wiped my canvas off. Sometimes you gotta cut your losses. Now I have a nicely toned and stained canvas for the next effort. If I'd started out with a stained canvas, I might have turned it into something. But that's a different creative hobby, so...you know....

Nice work, everyone!

Patrick

carbon fiber tow laminated top and bottom of braces, inspired by Trevor Gore falcate bracing. the braces are two piece 1/8 inch adi spruce lamination .350 high at "x"...I too am very curious how this will sound??????
Gotta love this stuff!!!!!

Hey Patrick,

No problem! It is jewelled brass (in a little nod to the 1800's/Stauffer styling). It is totally flat, so no cheese grating :). It is lots of little circular polish marks overlapped systematically that reflects the light in a cool way. I got the idea form old watch cases but it is on all sorts of things, the spirit of St. Louis, fancy car interiors etc... Here is another photo that may or may not help to clarify it:

Wes - That bracing looks interesting. I'll be very interested to know how it sounds when it's complete. Please keep us posted!

Working on binding a blanca based on the GAL Barbero plan. Also made the bridge pattern and the first bridge yesterday (no pics). Hope to get woodworking done by next weekend so I have time to polish.

I read up on an article years ago on jeweling rifle bolts, basically get some abrasive paste, a nylon bristle that goes on a dremel - the kind that has all the hairs facing forward rather than in a disk, and you chuck it into a drill press or whatever then you cover the part in abrasive paste and simply drill into it with the nylon bristle, moving half the diameter and redoing it.
