I have a Nashville guitar I am fixing for a friend. Other than saying that on the back of the headstock it only has "made in Japan" on the neck block. It was bought new in 1979 or 81. A D-28 copy. Anyone know if this has a dovetail neck joint.
Thanks,

I ran into a few of the Japanese and Korean guitar of this period
a few dovetailed and a doweled joint.
As Todd stated drill an exploratory hole , if you hit a pocket you will most likely have a glued neck joint but sometimes these are epoxied.
If you can't find the pocked , you can do yourself a favor and cut the fretboard 3 frets up the neck and remove that lower part of the fretboard. This way you can reglue the fretboard. If the board is bound you may want to think about pulling the binding before cutting off.
Once removed you can see clearly what you are up against. I drilled a few holes into the joint and worked the steam needle into the joint , I actually got the neck off clean , then drilled out the dowels and drilled a hole for bolts. I put 2 bolts into the neck one lower one 3/4 of the way up.
These can be tricky just take your time and think it through. If you have epoxy you have to use a hot knife to separate the joint.
good luck and take lots of photos.
