I have been on vacation this week and working on a couple of projects..one is a OM I started awhile back and decided to try a armrest, now its getting a carbon fiber x braced top.. sandwiched between braces and soundboard and will have carbon fiber on the top of the braces as well when done, the cutaway is my first try at falcate bracing using adridondack spruce lamimate braces, all of which is inspired by the Gore and Gilet books....

Its been a fun week....

I finished up the back for the third guitar I am building. Left to right are curly claro walnut, black limba I bought from Sniggly in the classifieds here, and a cedar back plate:

I am finishing up my latest. This is my first attempt at finishing with brush-on varnish. I am using a marine spar varnish from Petit. I have received much encouragement and guidance from friends, Robert Ruck and Robert Webster. The body of the guitar is done, but I had to go back and am redoing the neck and headstock. This was because in removing the tape from the fingerboard I also removed some of the varnish along the edge of the fingerboard with some chipping and cracking.

The guitar is a flamenco with:

Back and sides: Oregon Myrtle
Top: Englemann Spruce
Bindings: East Indian Rosewood
Neck: Curly Spanish Cedar
Fingerboard: Gabon Ebony
Headstock veneers: Cocobolo (front) and Oregon Myrtle (back)
Bridge: Cocobolo

I was putting in some pink ivory last night on the cocobolo build and I apparently put a lil to much pressure on the back and heard a little give I didnt like .



So when I turned it over and checked , the back braces on the upper and lower bout on one side had poped lose for about 3/4" " pencils pointing to the affected area " I used the thick super glue and pulled it back into place and let it set over night .



Should I be concerned about this holding ? Would it help to ( a ) take some meat out of the back braces so they have a lil more flex or give ( b ) make small supports and glue them to the side and top of the brace for extra backing ?

I appreciate any input .

Hey Wud! I feel your pain... Cocobolo can be very difficult to glue.
It was my first Coco guitar that turned me into a fish glue "believer".
After my linings failed to stick, I did a bunch of tests, using every adhesive in the shop.
The fish glue bonded so well, I couldn't shave the glue off the cocobolo (using a VERY sharp chisel) without taking a fine shaving of wood along with the glue. All the other adhesives would shave off clean.
Not in any way, a "scientific test", but it was enough to convince me.

Repaired the mold for my Clairtone Project G speaker globes. Its now ready for sanding and polishing. The photo does not indicate any scale, it is 18" diameter.
Carved out the peghead on the viola da gamba head. Its now ready to fit to the garland. This is prior to the final detailing.
Made some oars. 9'6".

Other stuff, too, but no photos yet. Finished off the yellow canoe and made paddle blanks for 10 paddles.
