I haven't tried the Ultra Pure but for my performing guitar ('60 D-18) I use the K&K passive pure mini with the meridian external mic and run it through the dual channel quantum blender. Sounds almost perfectly acoustic. I LOVE K&K products.

I just installed the K&K Pure Mini in a customer's acoustic, bundled with the condenser mic. The D-tar system wouldn't power the mic with the 1/4 stereo cable, as the D-tar provides the power to the microphone through the XLR connections, but IMO, the pickup only sounded awesome all by itself, very rich and acousticy, no weird muffled overtones or unwanted frequencies. I installed it using the gel CA method as opposed to the double stick, and positioned them as directed by the instructions centered directly under the saddle slot.

I haven't been super impressed with K&K stuff in the past, but those were most likely poor installations.

I've installed about 4 of these systems in the past month. Weird how stuff comes in waves sometimes.

Another happy K&K customer here. I prefer passive systems, and while the Mini Western is a very hot pickup it is very user friendly when paired with their Pure XLR preamp.

I've installed a whole lot of K&K units, both in my own and various factory instruments. My favourite is probably the Quantum Trinity System, the goose neck microphone really does give it a little more authentic acoustic sound.

My preferred combination too but I've had a few inquiries about active systems so glad to hear the good report on the Ultra Pure.

I agree. It's like having your ear right next to the sound hole.
