I've purchased this set of plans & was wondering if anyone has built from them. They show a pretty hefty transverse brace between the upper transverse brace & the neck block, rather than a thin flat brace as in the original Martin. With this configuration, one would have to drill through 2 braces for truss rod access. Also, the X-brace is moved a bit toward the foot, compared to the original Martin. Any experience or thoughts on these modifications?

I guess it's safe to assume that no OLFers have any experience with this plan?

I purchased some "Ultimate Guitar" plans myself and had them printed out. They were for a Taylor based 12. I was wondering the same thing. I attributed the brace thickness to the greater strength required for a 12. ...Maybe not!

I have a couple of other things to do before a 12, I haven't worried about it too much. This has got me thinking again.

...Just what I needed! laughing6-hehe

One thing I wanted to ask when/if you had them printed out did you have problems with size? I had to have FedEx print then out at 102 %, or something like that, to get them right!

Billy- We have a full-up engineering copy center where I work, so printing them to "exact" size was not a problem for me.

Why would 12 frets require greater brace strength? I'm not tracking on that ...

I could be wrong but I think he meant 12 string. . .

Funny how we all think... I was also thinking 12 fret and was also wondering why a 12 fret would require more bracing. Since my harp guitars are 12 fret, I was starting to wonder what it was I missed!!

Clearly, the 12 refers to strings. (I hope)

Either I'm bliond or it says right in the title "12-fret".

And anyway, there's no 00-28VS that's a 12 stringer, or ANY 00 for that matter.

To the original poster,

The popsicle brace should be about 1" wide, about 7.75" long on the long edge, and about .125" thick, and you'll shave it down a bit on the edges, angle then down from the centerline.

This info is from a '35 00-21 12-fret.

If you have anymore questions about Pre-war 00-12 fretters, give me a shout.

Mike

Never have seen a good argument for a double UTB.

Seems to me that if an argument could be made for a double UTB, a 14-fret guitar would need it more than a 12-fret.
