Anyone using an inspection camera for repair work, etc?

I'm interested in shopping around for one and was hoping to hear others experiences, good or bad.

I'd like something that can record still images or short videos.

Jim,

I'm pretty partial to this USB microscope, about $50 from Amazon. It has its own adjustable LED light source (adjustment wheel just visible near the cable), and takes stills and video. Depth of field is shallow, so the silver corrugated part visible in the photo is the focus adjustment. Being a microscope, it leans towards closeup use, though it does focus out to about 4 ft.

Pat - that does look ideal. Do you happen to have the make and model?

My Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 has worked well for inspection. Autofocus, nice imaging, but no LEDs so I put a flashlight inside. Its stand makes a decent articulating handle. Attached is a pic. Closest macro is about a 2" field of view.

Robbie O'Brien recently posted a video about an LED webcam (about $5 on Amazon).

It seems to be sold under a bunch of different names in different packages. Here's one on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Veho-VMS-001-Magnification-Discovery-Microscope/dp/B001ACKIUO

It's listed with 200x magnification, but I don't think it comes anywhere near that, and it's not continuous, more like 20x OR 80x.
