Myself and Chris Yagerlener were thinking it might be fun to have a mid-February get-together. Nothing special planned but just a time to talk shop and guitars and raid the frig for beers -- I'll give up all my guitar building secrets so long as I'm supplied with a steady intake of Mike's Hard Lemonade 8-)

I'm near Daytona Beach and Chris is in Jacksonville -- we can choose the most convenient date, time and location but that will depend on who can make it.

Anyone interested?

Hey Simon, you can sign me up! Will it be a formal affair? Can I borrow your cat's Tux?

Formal? -- Yes
Can you borrow his tux? -- No, he only lets his closest friends borrow his "swagger". Although, he does have a spare fedora he might let you use -- but you might find it a bit smallish in size.

I'm 2.5 hours from Daytona, might be fun. Can't commit yet though

This should be a really good time. I always have a good time at these. There is something about talking to people face to face about guitar building that really gets me motivated.

And this time I have something to bring (Other than Mike's Hard Lemonade for Simon [:Y:] ).

I'm booked for the last two weekends of February, but could pull something off earlier.

Since this is a formal event, I think we need to discuss safety as a deciding factor in what we wear.
Neck tie……. not a great idea around drill presses and sanders. wow7-eyes The bowtie is a much better choice. I was thinking that with my tux I should wear some sort of a frock or one of those Dracula Cape sort of things, but then again near a drum sander that is asking for trouble. Top had and dust collector is just asking for it, in my opinion.

If I go I'm going to be naked, so none of that should be a problem for me.

I could probably make it, it would be nice to meet face to face. As far as attire, I wear denim and sandals I guess they would look good with a tie. Where ever we meet has to be accessible for me to attend (I.E. 36" door ways and ramps etc.). Please, for Gods sake do not make that a deciding factor as it is my situation to deal with no one else’s. I just need to know in advance.

Hey.... maybe I could make it if it is in Tampa. My son lives there. Let me know the details and if you need me to bring anything.

Hey Jim... I just noticed you live in Clermont. Another one of my sons lives there and runs one of our music stores. It is Family Music and his name is Stefan. I have sons in Tampa, Orlando, Clermont and one in Bend OR.

Joe,

If someone were to help you back your chair through the door, can it make it over a 6" rise into an entry way? I think this is pretty standard for front and garage entrances in Florida.

It is looking like most of you guys are on the west coast near Tampa -- it is a good 3 hours to make it across the state and so the "most" convenient location for the group is probably somewhere near Tampa. If so, why don't you guys decide on a time and location that works best for you all.

Simon,

Thanks for offering to meet at your place. That is a very cool offer. [:Y:]

The problem with a "Florida" meeting is that Florida is a huge state. As a state, we have a pretty decent concentration of people in the Tampa area. It makes sense to try and meet up there. However, it is still a hike for anyone not centrally located in the state. Most of the meetings that have happened in Florida have been in Tampa (mainly at Jim Bonnell's place). The Florida group sort of fizzled out when trying to find a space and nail down dates became difficult.

Tampa is a 3 hour hike for me so I'm still open for other places where someone is will to host. I just want to get together and talk to people who understand what I’m talking about. As much as my friends and family pretend to care about what I’m talking about, I just don’t think they really get it. In the back of their minds I know they just think I’m nuts.

The key to making these happen is to first find someone who is willing to host the meeting. Then pick a date and announce it.

Thanks again for the offer Simon. You are (or have) one cool cat.

John

The weekend starting 2/10 is out for me. Any other weekend and anywhere between Tampa and Tallahassee might be OK. I will keep checking to see what you guys decide.

My schedule is open for time and many places. I would offer to host but my home would be a poor venue at this time. Is a Park a viable setting? It sounds like a majority prefer the Tampa area. I heard an Orlando...TPA. Guys and or Gals can probably car-pool to Orlando if that is the majority decision
If everyone could set the best date for them, then we can establish a day. In Feb we have these weekends:

I am free on all the X’s....Joe H.

11__X___ 12___x___

18___X__ 19___X___

25___X__ 26___X___

I'm in Port St Lucie, but I get together with a bunch of mostly bluegrass musician's (some are professional level) at Sertoma Youth Ranch about once a month. It's about 30 minutes north from Tampa, right off I75 near Dade City/Brooksville area. About 3 hours for me. RV hookups and tent camping. The next gathering there is Feb 2nd-5th. A lot of people( 30-40 or more) usually show up, especially if the weather is good. If some of you guys are pickers, and think it might be fun to combine the gatherings it's a lot of fun. Not all the jams are bluegrass, there is quite a bit of variety, and many excellent musicians.

Just a thought, anyway.

Or, I have plenty of room at my property and will offer to host on another weekend - I am almost halfway to Okeechobee out SR 70 from Ft Pierce (PSL is the mailing address) about 2 & 1/2 hrs from Brandon (Tampa area), 1hr 40min from the Orlando airport, and about halfway between Miami and Daytona. Equally far from everyone except JAX so far! ;)

Now that I got the ball rolling and most of you guys seems to be on the west coast - it is looking like the Tampa area is the most convenient location. However, for Chris and myself - that is a bit farther than either of us want to go.

So instead of interfering with the current plans -- why don't you guys go ahead and hold a gathering over somewhere in the Tampa region.

And what Chris and I will do is hold another "get-together" a few months later at either his house or mine.

It looks to me like Orlando is central to Florida and most of us here. I am sure with a little determination we can find a time and place suitable for all. Orlando is aprox. 2-2.5 hrs from me or Tpa. If no one lives there, then we could arrange a place (i.e. park, restaurant or a small banquet room). Does it have to be in Feb.? Maybe we could shoot for a day or a weekend in March or April so all can schedule time off for a get-to-gether. That would also give us time to get a Location settled on. I would not be adverse to spending a weekend in Daytona Beach, at least if I have a buzz I won't have to drive home. Most Motels and/or Hotels give a group discount. I am just throwing out ideas.

Anywhere between Cuba and Georgia is good for me. March or April OK. Just not Feb 10, 11, 12. I have a big conference to attend here in Miami. "I do not play well with others":D I mean I would enjoy listening to some pickers but I play in the house with airconditioning to protect my instruments. Plus I need to be picking some luthier brains while we are together.
