This is my first soundport. I am pleased with the shape and the size. [:Y:] But... If you look closely you can see that there is a spot that has a little gouge in it, on the edge of the hole. I prefer not to change the shape of the hole. I'm afraid that if I try to file or sand it out, it will change the shape... and of course, I'd have to file or sand on the other side of the hole. These things can get out of hand... [xx(] What would you suggest? ...fill with dust and glue? ...drop fill with finish? ...file or sand it anyway? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I would extend the port in that direction by an 1/8" or so. If you make a symmetrical pencil mark along that edge and follow it closely, it should be ok.

I think if you leave it, or attempt a patch of some kind, you will probably be unhappy with it every time you look down when you are playing it :)

Sand it smooth, it will not look right filled. I would round it over more to remove the gouge. Only you will know about it if you only to the one side.

Jim and Rod are giving excellent advice here. A fill will never look right, nor will it ever be the same color as the surrounding wood. In fact, a fill would call attention to itself. I don't believe you want that. If you gently sand out a longer oval on your sound port, you will be much happier with it. As Julia Child famously said on her national television cooking program--after dropping her chicken on the floor: "No one will know but you and me."
