Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice about what was the cause of this? As you can see it didn't turn out that well. gaah I used Titebond III...The veneers are .020 thick...the total size is about .150 wide x .080 thick. I used a heating blanket also....did I maybe rush the bend to quick or what do ya think? I've bent the stew mac herringbone with no problem. This is my first time of making my own and bending it.
Thanks,
Jeff

I was trying to bend radial strips of wood that where about 3,5 mm wide and had no veneers atached to them.
I had success using a thin steel shim (a metal saw) to support the outer side of the strip avoiding tension on the outside to snap the radial strip.
so it was: side bender, radial strip, thin metal strip.

on your case it seems that you need to support the inside from compression instead of tension.
so you could try: side bender, metal shim, purfling.
you probably don“t need to support the outer side because the veneer is dealing with the tension generated there.

best luck!
by the way, that purf looks real nice!

Next time, you also might try gluing the outer veneers with a more heat resistant glue. Urea Formaldehyde, or Polyurethane glue.

Funny, I was struck with just the opposite idea from Tony. It looks like if the glue would loosen a little on the inside the joint might slide a bit and prevent the "wrinkle".
